A blazer is a plain, usually solid-coloured jacket, traditionally navy, often with metal buttons, and it sits closer to a suit jacket in formality. A sports jacket is looser in every sense: textured or patterned cloth such as tweed, houndstooth or checks, softer construction, and made to be worn with contrasting trousers. Neither is intended to be worn with matching trousers, which is what separates both from a suit jacket.
Pricing depends on the fabric and the construction you choose, and we quote it at your consultation once the cloth is settled. Sports jacket cloths range widely, from hard-wearing tweeds to fine summer weaves, and that range is what moves the price. Book a fitting for a quote.
Four to six weeks from consultation to final fitting, the same as a suit. The jacket is cut and constructed to your measurements rather than adjusted from a standard size, which is where the time goes. Priority orders can usually be accommodated if you need it sooner.
Texture is the point, so most sports jacket cloths are chosen for how they read at a distance. Tweed and flannel for autumn and winter, hopsack and fresco for spring, linen and cotton blends for summer. Checks, herringbones and houndstooth all suit the style, where a flat business worsted would simply look like an orphaned suit jacket.
Generally no, and it is the most common mistake. A suit jacket is cut from smooth, flat cloth chosen to match its trousers, so worn alone it reads as an incomplete suit rather than a deliberate choice. Its shine and its formality also fade at a different rate from the trousers. A jacket made as a sports jacket uses different cloth and often a softer shoulder for exactly this reason.
Yes for the upper body, and we note a little extra through the chest and shoulder because a sports jacket is usually worn over knitwear rather than just a shirt. If we already have your suit measurements on file we work from those and adjust rather than starting again.
