Your wedding is the most important day of your life and the groom can choose any colour for his wedding suit. Your wedding day is about you and the bride so you should be able to wear pretty much any colour suit for your wedding.
However, the most sensible thing to do would be to choose a suit colour and style so you can get more wear out of it. The most conservative wedding suit colors would be grey, charcoal and Navy. Many grooms also like to get a black suit for the wedding. Only suggestion when choosing a black suit would be to ensure that the styling is great and fit is perfect otherwise you may look like the catering staff for the wedding!
Colour selection largely depends on background setting and time of the wedding. Light colour suits such as more earthy and natural shades colors work well with day time wedding and for more formal sit down receptions blacks, navy and charcoal are recommended.
Groomsmen suits are equally important here. A general rule with wedding party suits is that grooms suit must stand out from the grooms men suits and this can be achieved by groom opting for a different colour suit/shirt from the rest of the wedding party. For example groom could wear a charcoal suit with a crisp white dinner shirt and bow tie and the groomsmen could wear colored shirts (matching with bridesmaid dresses) and a skinny tie. Grooms can also opt for a tuxedo or a 3pc suit to make sure they stand out from the crowd on their special day.
For a very formal wedding arrangement grooms will have to steer clear from traditional 2pc or 3pc suits and venture into tuxedos and dinner suits. However, one has limited colour choice; tuxedos are usually made in black, white or midnight blues. Tuxedos usually feature a satin shawl lapel and satin covered buttons and piping.
