In our previous blogs we have discussed how a suit should fit vest should fit. In this blog I will give you my 2 cents on how the shirt should fit.
You may not think shirt fitting is a big issue but in fact if you do look around you will find that most men wear dress shirts that are usually 1 or 2 sizes too big. Reason is
simple, off the rack shirts are made based on standard sizing so if you try and get the collar right, the shoulders might be too big or the length might be off. So here are some key points on how your shirts needs to fit.
Let’s take it from the top –
Now the correct collar size is when the collar touches the neck skin but does not press it, you should be able to put 1 or 2 fingers between the collar and neck without having to pull the collar too much.
If the collar is too tight it will be choking and in some cases you may not even be able to do the collar button up. On the other hand if it is too big the collar will sit much lower and will rest on your body.
Just like your jacket your shirt shoulder seam of your shirt should sit flat on your shoulder and finish where the arm meets your shoulders.
If it is too tight then you will notice pulling around the armhole and if the shoulder is too big, the shoulders will drop on your arm and make you look much bigger than you are
When you close the buttons on your shirt there should be no pulling around the placket area. If the shirt is too big you will notice billowing on the sides when you tuck the shirt in and if it’s too tight you will notice pulling on the buttons.
Well that isn’t all when it comes to your shirt fit, will share others in my next blog.
