A good business suit should in not just about good quality fabric and great styling, the fit of your suit plays an equally important role. When buying your next business suit pay attention to the fit of your suit.
Below is the list of telltale’s signs of a bad fit suit. When you try on a suit, the suit must fit you well in your “natural stance”, which is stand straight with your arms on the side.
Shoulder –
Let’s start with top to toe. When trying your jacket on shoulder must sit flat in your natural stance. Make sure the shoulder seam is same length as your shoulder bone.
If the shoulder length is too long then you will notice a bump, which is also called as a shoulder divot. Or if it is too short then the jacket will not fit properly.
Jacket Fit –
The next step of checking the jacket fit is an acid test to see if the jacket is right or not. When you put your suit jacket on and button up the top button and if you notice a fabric pull around the button area forming an X? This tells you that the jacket is too snug. If the jacket is too big, that won’t work either. The best test to check if the jacket is a good fit is you should be able to fit your open hand, palm down between your buttoned jacket and your shirt.
Sleeve Length –
One factor about suit fitting most men do not know is the correct sleeve length. The perfect sleeve length for the jacket is when ½ inch off shirt cuff is visible beyond you jacket sleeve. This is a very general guide line. Your Jacket sleeve should never be so short that the cuff seam is visible or never be so long that you cannot see shirt sleeve completely.
